I graduated with a BA Honours in Graphic Design from the Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) in 2010. After exhibiting my work at D&AD New Blood in 2010 I’d managed to line up placements at R-Design, Williams Murray Hamm, Blue Marlin and The Partners. I was offered a full-time position at Carter Wong shortly after and gratefully I said yes. After 2 years there I left to be a freelance graphic designer in 2012, which is what I have been doing since. My clients include household brands, corporate leaders, organisations, institutions, charities, artists and start-ups.
I worked as a full time graphic designer at Carter Wong for 2 years creating ongoing projects for brand heavyweights such as; Unilever, Lloyds of London, FedEx, The Royal Mail, Lee Jeans, Cafedirect and The National Gallery. This is where I cut my teeth. It was a family sat round a single desk, sharing ideas and helping each other (while secretly trying to be the designer to crack the winning concept at the same time). Carter Wong is an award winning, independent multi-disciplined graphic design studio.
Most recently I’ve been working on; ongoing advertising and marketing materials to roll out the new brand identity for Cafedirect. Packaging design concepts for MasterChef’s new cooking utensils range, and the rebrand of the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Competition for key stakeholder – Cathay Pacific Airline. I also work for a variety of new startups all year round that, with the help of my brand identity design work, are currently securing contracts with major distributors and investors.
Each project I work on is an opportunity to do some amazing work that connects a businesses with it’s audience. I follow a strategic approach; identify your brand’s strengths and weaknesses, get to know your company culture and research your audience, competition, and the current market. I then explore intelligent and meaningful graphic design concepts that bridge the gap between your business and your consumer.
Over the years I’ve been a full time website designer and a full time graphic designer at various agencies. This has given quite a broad my skill-set. I’ve designed, developed and production managed many projects including; branding, logo design, packaging design and website design projects. I’ve worked under direction, and I’ve directed others. I know how to make a project run smoothy, from concept to launch.
On average my established clients report a 22% increase in audience engagement from my concepts over previous campaigns, and my startup clients typically see a 200-300% increase in sales within 3 years of launching their new brand identity. It’s a natural expectation that creating a brand presence will increase sales but much of my work is rebranding established businesses to solve problems of the existing brand. The single most important thing for me as a professional graphic designer is that my work is successful in helping my clients achieve their objectives.
My studio goes wherever I go. I typically work from a shared space in Hackney (WeWork). Prior to this I rented a place next-door to Cargo Bar in Shoreditch back in 2012. I then spent 6 months based in Heron Tower with a bunch of rich Russian startup investors. After this I moved to an old converted recording studio in Hackney that I shared with a great group of creative startups. I eventually moved in with some architects from that space (Holland & Harvey) at their new studio, before finally arriving at WeWork. Very occasionally I’ll be a hermit and work from home – when the weather gets too much.
I’m always available all year round for projects but I am always busy, and I keep my schedule full. I can work on long term projects or short turnaround projects. All I ask is a minimum of 1 week turnaround on anything, even thats just 1x web banner – because I’ll need to schedule it in.
If you have a project that you would like to discuss please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
